TONY MORTIMER

Lead Singer and Songwriter of all of EAST 17 Hits.

Former East 17 frontman, Tony Mortimer, was born with a unique gift for writing unforgettable pop songs, which has seen him have continued worldwide success for over two decades.

Back in 1991, East 17 burst out of the Walthamstow twilight and nobody could anticipate that this particular brand of rabble-rousing boy-band pop would create such a storm in the music industry. The world needed an antidote to Take That and a group that bad girls could fall in love with. As a result, East 17 emerged along with the 1992 debut single, House Of Love, which sold 600,000 copies and a debut album that hit the No.1 spot the following year.

The band went on to achieve 18 Top Twenty hits (including Deep, Steam, Let It Rain, House of Love, It’s Alright and the epic Christmas No.1 ballad Stay Another Day- the latter remaining No.1 for five weeks and earning Mortimer an Ivor Novello Award), as well as four Top Ten albums and sales of over twenty million records.

In December 2019 Tony & Waltham Forest Youth Choir covered ’Stay Another Day’ in support of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (The CALMzone). Released by London Records and Waltham Forest London Borough Of Culture 2019 in support of The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) - a leading movement against suicide.
