As one of this country’s best known journalists, the Daily Mirror Associate Editor and New Statesman columnist can be seen sparring with his frenemy Andrew Pierce most mornings on ITV’s Good Morning Britain reviewing the newspapers and breaking news.
Previously he co-hosted a Sunday morning politics show with Andrew Pierce on LBC radio and last summer they took their battles to the stage at a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival.
Born into a mining family in South Shields he is one of six children. He was always keen on current affairs and after graduating in politics from the University of York, he went on to achieve a postgraduate diploma in journalism which took him to the Guardian and the Mirror for many years.
He co-authored the book, Great Parliamentary Scandals: Five Centuries of Calumny, Smear and Innuendo and has been a presenter on Talk TV; LBC and appears regularly as a panellist on SKY News; GB News and the Jeremy Vine show on C5.
